Do you know the difference between STATIC charts and DYNAMIC charts? Let's find out.... Which of the 2 charts below is a STATIC chart?
1)
2)
The correct answer is 2.
STATIC Charts contain data points belonging to either a single time frame - such as one year, one month etc. - or have no time reference at all. DYNAMIC charts, on the other hand, contain data points in a number of time periods – for example 24 hours from 12 am to 12pm, 10 years from 2000 to 2010 or days from Friday to Sunday.
It’s amazing that some students enter the IELTS exam without knowing this vital difference. It’s vital because the way that you write the essay is completely different for a STATIC chart vs. a DYNAMIC chart.
In a DYNAMIC chart, you describe how things go up and down, change or stay the same OVER DIFFERENT TIME PERIODS. In a STATIC chart, you describe how things are similar or different, bigger or smaller INSIDE ONE TIME PERIOD.
In today's IELTS playlist, you will learn how to write a report on static charts for the IELTS Academic Writing Task 1.
