IELTS Writing Task 2 essay with model answer
You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic
The most important thing about a job is how much money you earn in that job. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Write at least 250 words.
One of the highly controversial issues today relates to whether money is the only parameter that one should consider while choosing a job or that employment should be a truly good opportunity for a person to achieve his goals by which he can contribute to the society as well. I partially agree with the latter view due to several reasons that I will discuss in greater detail in my essay.
On one side of the argument there are people who argue that the material benefits of a job are absolutely important. The main reason for believing this is that a sound financial condition is crucial to start a family. Furthermore, economic stability would help a person grow academically. One good illustration of this is the increasing number of companies, which offer regular training courses to their employees to help them grow professionally. Therefore, it is easy to see why this argument has gained support.
On the other hand, it is also possible to make the opposing case. It is often argued that money cannot be the only factor to decide to work for someone. People often have this opinion, because it is important for a person to aspire to accomplish a greater goal in life rather other than simply earning money. A second point is that working tirelessly only for money would gradually deplete the enthusiasm and energy required to be successful. A particularly good example here is the remarkable number of people who quit their highly paid jobs to open their own business. Thus, it goes without saying that this viewpoint is credible and realistic too.
After having discussed the most pertinent points of this issue, I have drawn the conclusion that despite the extreme importance of money, having career aspirations is equally vital. Hence, I am partially inclined to the view supporting the non-materialistic outlook on jobs.
