IELTS Writing Task 2 essay with model answer

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic

Air traffic is increasingly leading to more noise, pollution, and airport construction. One reason for this is the growth in low-cost passenger flights, often to holiday destinations. Some people say that government should try to reduce air traffic by taxing it more heavily. Do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

Model Answer:

Over the last decade, travelling by airplanes has increased dramatically. This has happened in response to the reduced airfares and travel time, making them a more efficient way of transportation. I do not advocate the idea of increasing taxation on airlines to reduce air traffic because of the following reasons.

To begin with, in my personal opinion high tax changes on airlines, will directly reflect on their ticket fares. It will become difficult for the economy class passengers to afford the airline tickets. Thus, there will be a drastic decline in tourism industry leading to more financial loss than gain.

Secondly, reduced airfares have also been beneficial in making overseas education dreams and jobs viable for many individuals. The increase in ticket fares and reduction in air traffic will limit people from travelling to meet their loved ones. For instance, with the low cost and discount tickets, parents of many of my friends were able to attend their children’s convocation ceremony on graduation. Therefore, such things may become inevitable due to the inflation of air ticket cost.

Furthermore, instead of increasing taxation on passenger’s aeroplanes, authorities must founder the idea of a high tax on private jets and planes. Also, there is various leading sources of noise and air pollution line increasing the number of personal automobiles that have resulted in traffic congestion on roads. Thus, rather than targeting passenger’s airlines, the government must consider other ways of ameliorating pollution problems.

In conclusion, surely, that low-cost passenger’s airline has led to air traffic congestion and air pollution. But, it must not be sold, targeted for these problems, as there are other reasons to blame too.
