IELTS General Writing Task 1 with model answer

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic

You are staying in a country where the main language is English. You are looking for an opportunity to do a volunteer work in a developing country.

Write a letter to the organization you want to work with a tell them:
- why you are interested in working with them
- what skills and experience you have
- how long you are available to volunteer

Write at least 150 words.

Model Answer:

Dear Sir,

I am John Doe. I am currently pursuing master's in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota. I live in Minneapolis. I am writing to request you to kindly provide me an opportunity to work for your school and teach English to students during the coming spring semester on a voluntary basis.

During my course, I enrolled in the communication skills class. The prerequisite to that course is to complete an unpaid internship of any developing country. I decided to work to a reputed, big school. I came to know that your school was top-rated and very famous. I went over the reviews and was very impressed. Ultimately, I decided to request you to kindly allow me to do some volunteer work at your school. 

I have the experience of teaching for two years. During my Sophomore year, I was the teaching assistant for two different classes. My assistantship continued in the next year as well. I received above average reviews from my students. I believe that I am very knowledgeable and possess great communication skills. 

I am available to volunteer throughout the next semester. I look forward to a positive response.
