IELTS General Writing Task 1 with model answer

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic

You eat at your favorite restaurant every day for lunch. You do not like the decor they have chosen.

Write the manager a letter telling him:

• What you think is great about the restaurant?
• What things you think need to be changed?
• Suggestions on ways to improve the decor?

Write at least 150 words.

Model Answer:

Dear Mr.Kamal,

I am writing to express my concern about the new décor of your restaurant. I am a regular customer of your Islamabad branch Chillis restaurant. The food you serve is scrumptious and the service is considerably satisfying. I particularly like the wide variety of items on your menu. Each time that I have dined at your restaurant I have never been disappointed regarding the food and service.

However, on my last visit, I noticed a drastic change in the decor of the restaurant because of which I felt rather uncomfortable and left early. The new wallpaper and dark paint on the walls have made the ambiance quite gloomy and depressing. Moreover, the dim lights are also adding to the melancholic environment.  

I would like to suggest a few changes regarding the interior of the restaurant. Firstly, you could add a few spotlights on the false ceiling, which could lighten up the place. Another suggestion could be replacing the sofa covers and wallpapers with bright and colorful options.

I hope you will consider my suggestions to improve the decor of the lovely place you manage.
