IELTS General Writing Task 1 with model answer

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic

Please write a letter to builder who did some work in your home.

- speak about the work done
- explain what work was wrongly done
- explain what he needs to do

Write at least 150 words.

Model Answer:

Dear Mr. Tan,
I am writing to you to provide some feedback on the building work you were supposed to have carried out in my house, and some issues that I have noticed thereafter which need rectification. If you refer to the agreement that we signed prior to your team commencing work, you were to remove the door between the living room and kitchen, widen the entry by an additional 4 feet by demolishing the wall in accordance to the plans attached, and then install glass sliding panels in the space.  

You had successfully widened the entry, and I must commend you for being very neat when you demolished the wall to do so. However, you have mistakenly installed the wrong type of sliding door in the newly created space. Instead of glass panels, you have installed wooden panels. This is not in line with the specifications of work earlier agreed as the wooden panels do not allow sufficient light into the space, which was the reason for my wanting to renovate in the first place.

I would appreciate if you could rectify the situation by removing the wooden panels and installing glass sliding panels as per the original plans in their place instead. I will have some time free next week either on Thursday or Friday morning at 10 a.m. and will be able to let you into my home to carry out the work. Please let me know in writing by tomorrow if any of those times suit, or if you would like to set another date.
