IELTS General Writing Task 1 with model answer

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic

You have been doing voluntary work to help local country. however, now you are unable to continue doing this work.

Write a letter to your manager. In your letter:
- describe the work you have been doing ; helping teach children community weekly
- explain why you can no longer work; university
- recommend another person

Write at least 150 words.

Model Answer:

Dear Mr. Banks, 

I am writing to inform you that I will not be able to volunteer with the refugee homework project from September onwards. I have mentored a number of refugee school children in mathematics weekly on Monday eveniungs. I have felt privileged to see many flourish in their new school environments.

I have been successful in my recent exams, as a result I will enroll at the University of Adelaide in October. As an undergraduate student, I expect I will have an increased workload. Further, my lectures will often finish at six o'clock in the evening. For this reason I will not be able to continue my commitment to the refugee student project.

Incidentally, I have a younger sister Jenny. She aspires to become a teacher and I would like to recommend her as my replacement. She has experience mentoring younger students and she is a hardworking individual. Enclosed please fine her email address.
