You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic
Your local council is considering closing a sport centre to save $. Write a letter to the local council.
Write a letter to the local council. In your letter:
- give details of how you and friends use the centre
- explain why it's important for the community
- describe possible effects on local people it closes
Write at least 150 words.
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my disappointment about the possible closure of the Leeds Swimming Leisure facility.
The leisure facility and staff have been an important part of my mother's recent recovery from a serious leg injury. She regularly attends the aquatic rehabilitation classes held weekly on Wednesday mornings. I also use the swimming facility to train for national competitions.
The centre forms an integral part of the lives of the Leeds residents. Firstly, there are approximately two hundred employees. It provides a source of employment for many members of our community. Secondly, it provides a range of activities for young people. This keeps them fit and healthy, Finally, many people visit the centre to access the physiotherapist after injuries.
If the centre is closed there will be a number of detrimental effects on our community. Firstly, there would be an increase in unemployment. Secondly, many young people would find it difficult to access sports facilities; this may have a negative impact on their health. Finally, many residents will have difficulty accessing aquatic rehabilitation and physiotherapy sessions.
I urge you to consider carefully before you make any final decisions.
