 The charts below show information on crime in the UK for 2002.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Model Answer:

The line graph illustrates the correlation between age and crime rate, while the pie chart provides information about different types of crime, in the UK for the year 2002. Overall, people who are between the age of 16 and 24 had higher crime rates compared to their younger and older counterparts. Violent crime was the most common crime in the UK.

There were no cases of crime recorded in children from 0 to 8 years of age. Children aged 8 to 12 contributed to only 3% of the crime rate. By contrast, the rate for teenagers aged 16 surged steeply to 70%. It reached a peak at 80% when people were 20 years old. From 20 years old onwards, there was a sharp decrease in the percentage of criminals to 20% for 28-year-old people, followed by a steady drop to 10% for the 60-year-old.

Violent crime made up almost half of total crime in the UK, at 46%. On the other hand, proportions for property crime and drug crime were similar at 23 % and 22% respectively. Finally, public order crime was least common crime at 9%.
